EXCURSION TO SHANTINIKETAN


42 students accompanied by 4 teachers of NGHSS went for an excursion to Shantiniketan.  It was an exciting and memorable experience for them.

 

 

DEATH ANNIVERSARY OF LATE NARAYAN SHAW


26TH April 1999 was the day which brought shocking news of sad demise of our dynamic energetic, First President Mr. Narayan Shaw. To show our respect , every year a meaningful prayer service is organised on the closest working day to 26th April. This year the service was conducted on 24th May in the School Ground where all the student , teaching and non-teaching staff along with the Principal and the Head master were present. Our Principal and the Headmaster gave speeches on ethics , principles , morals and views of Late Narayan Shaw. After that a group chanted some relevant portions from Holy Gita , Bible and Koran and paid homage through spiritual songs to the departed soul.
 

 

MAY DAY
 

Like every year this year too, our school organised a grand celebration to observe MAY DAY . At the beginning of the programme Juhi Agarwal , one of our students delivered a speech in English. She was followed by Ishita Roy who delivered a speech in Bengali . Then a group song was presented by our student followed by a dance performance. Krishna Das , one of our Group D staff recited a poem , written by herself . Then our Principal handed over gifts to all our Group D staff. The programme concluded with the Principal appreciating the hard work they carry out behind the scene.
 

RABINDRA JAYANTI CELEBRATION



Like every year this year also we celebrated Rabindra Jayanti in our school on Friday, 8th May 2009. The programme started with garlanding the portrait of Rabindranath Tagore. It was followed by a short Bengali speech on Rabindranath Tagore. Dhriti Das and Madhurima Dutta enlightened us with necessary information about Rabindranath Tagore’s work and life. After this, few students of our School Choir sang the melodious Rabindra Sangeet ‘Akash jure …..’ Then a dance performance by Snehasree, Priyanka, Sayani and Moumita accompanied by the song ‘ Aaji dakhino pabone dola lagilo….’ created a blissful atmosphere. The Principal enriched the students with more information in this context.

 

 

NCC ARMY WING GIRLS
 


10 girls from 2nd year NCC, were taken to Fort William for firing. They were trained to fire with .22 deluxe rifle. All the girls fired 20 rounds of bullets, after which Oyendrila Dobe, Sweta Sadhukhan, Paramita Ghosh, Sudipta Das and Tanurima Mondal, were selected to be trained for the TSC camp, and were asked to attend the CATC camp from 1st June to 10th June 2009.

CATC camp was organised by 2 Bengal ( G ) BN NCC from 1st June to 10th June at Searampore Girls College Searampore.
Girls were trained to fire and perform rifle drill. They attended theory classes in subjects like Map Reading, Weapon Training, First Aid, National Integration etc.
In the Inter School games event NGHSS Girls Cricket team of 11 players defeated 10 schools and qualified for the finals with Adarsh Hindi High School Howrah and were the 1st runners up winning silver medals.
NGHSS cadets also participated in the Inter School Quiz Competition organised in this camp and bagged the 1st prize winning gold medals and certificates and making the school proud.

It was an exciting camp and a very good learning experience for the girls from NGHSS. Associate NCC officer Mrs. Anita Joshi was conferred with the second star and promoted to second officer’s rank, by the camp commandant Col. Rajan Kadayan.

The discipline, turn out and good conduct was highly praised by the Group Commander and the Training Officer from the Head quarters, who paid a surprise visit to the camp.
 

ANNUAL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION



Awards act as an impetus to spur students to achieve better results. The much awaited Annual Prize distribution of NGHSS was held on 22nd June, 2009 at Kala Mandir. Mr. Barry O’ Brien , member of the Legislative assembly and also the member of the managing committee graced the occasion as the chief guest.

The day also witnessed the prefects investiture ceremony. Our Principal Mr. M.S. Calvert presented the annual school report to keep the audience abreast of the school’s performance and achievements in the academic year 2008-2009.

Mr. Barry O’ Brien lauded the school choir for singing harmoniously with poise and equanimity in all three languages English, Hindi and Bengali. We also had a welcome dance in the form of Saraswati Bandana and a western dance performance which caught the attention of the audience.

The students were overwhelmed to receive their awards from Mr. Barry O’ Brien.

 


INVESTITURE CEREMONY

 


The investiture ceremony of NGHSS for the academic year 2009-2010 was held on 22nd June’09 along with the Annual Prize Distribution at Kala Mandir.

The student leaders consisting of boys and girls from classes X to XII had their badges pinned by their Principal Mr. M.S Calvert.

The prefects took the oath and promised to work faithfully and honestly in all matters affecting work, sports and general demeanor to work for the honour of the school. They pledged further to place the interest of others before their own and strive to persevere a sense of humour always.

Proud parents of the student leaders witnessed their children receiving the honour.

TANG-ALUMNI OF NGHSS

 

This is something that everyone was waiting for, and finally it hits the phase with a Bang. POGO –HOLE IN THE WALL

 

Pogo the kid’s entertainment channel came to N.G.H.S.S. on 2nd September, to conduct the game show –“Hole in the Wall”. They also introduced a palmtop touch screen technology device called the Human Tetris aided with which the children played the game .Students from class 5 to 8 participated in this game and were divided into 4 teams.From class 8 Arran Calvert and Soumyojyoti Bhattacharya teamed up to defeat Anamitra Sur and Bishal Ganguly.From class 7 Arjun and Ankita were the winners .Thus N.G.H.S.S. is one of the most privileged schools of Kolkata to get a glimpse of this technology The winners got gift hampers while the others got Pogo stickers. Everyone enjoyed this experience .


Spell linc or word cracking


A handwriting and spelling competition was held on 28.11.08. organized by Linc at N.G.H.S.S. for classes 5 to 10. In the spelling competition Indranil Haldar came 1st,Shreya Halder and Sarthak Sathpathy stood 2nd and 3rd respectively.
These winners will be participating in the grand final of the 10th All Bengal Spell Linc Competition 2008.


Story Telling Competition – All India Anglo Society (Santragachi Branch)


The All India Anglo Indian Society (Santragachi Branch) conducted a story telling competition in memory of Late Frank Anthony. Twenty three schools participated in it and each one excelled the other. The main aim of the programme was to encourage the young ones to travel through the world of imagination and speak out their thoughts in front of the audience. The participants were judged on the basis of originality, articulation and poise. Sutirtha Banerjee of National Gems Higher Secondary School stood a proud third. The audience was engrossed at the way Sutirtha delivered his humorous story. The audience cherished the precious moments they spent with the little ones.

Science Fellowship from the Kendriya Vigyan Protsahan Yojana (KVYP)

 

I, Ankita Basu, have received a Science Fellowship from the Kendriya Vigyan Protsahan Yojana (KVYP) which is being funded by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and administered by Indian Institute of Science Bangalore. A total of 198 students from all over India were selected in the SA ( Class X ) Category.

It is a fellowship for students who wish to further their career in scientific research. Qualifying students receive a monthly grant of Rs. 4000/- and an annual contingency grant of Rs. 16000/-, which increases as the student enters college. Selected Candidates also get free access to libraries, interaction with scientists and various facilities in many Science R & D Laboratories under Government of India.

KVYP also organizes yearly contact programmes for the candidates. This year KVYP has organized a week long science interaction meet with world renowned scientists from the likes of Oxford and Harvard, called “ Vijyoshi Programme” at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi from 12th – 16th Oct’09.
