ANNUAL SPORTS 2009-2010
 

Our Annual sports Meet was held at the oxford Mission Playground, Barisha, on 30th January, 2010. It is a day much looked forward to not just by the students but by the teachers as well.
The oxford Mission ground wore a festive look with  'Shamianas', numerous flags and the colourful comes laid al around the tracks. The excitement of the students beamed on their faces as they walked into their respective house arenas set up for the four houses namely-Fraternity, Equality. Liberty and justice.
The sports met was scheduled to begin at 9 am. The march past participants were lined up bu 8.45 am at the for end of the field. The NCC squads looked smart and elegnt is their uniform. They were ready to salute and welcome the chief guest. The chief  guest. The chief guest. Mr. Shaked Ahmed,  Deputy Commissioner of police arrived on time and was  escorted to the VIP Endosure by  our Principal Mr. M. S. Calvert, white the kolkata  Police  Brass Band sounded the bugle on his arrival. The sports meet started with the march past which was indeed a feast to the eyes of the spectators. The  school Captain wade Calvert led the rest of the impeceably attired contingent which comprised of the four  houses, each led by the house captain and house Vice-Captains, the NCC troops and the scouts and guides. The police band added to the grandeur. The perfect system  and timing  displayed by the students who marched, was indeed praiseworthy.
The March Past was followed by the lighting of the torch and the oath taking ceremony. The torch wearers comprised of the best atheletes of each house. After this the Chief Guest declared the Annual sports meet 2009-2010 open. With a thunderous applause from  the students, teachers and parents, hundreds of colourful gas balloons soared high up into the sky symbolizing the  upliftment  of the spirit of sportsmanship.
As the different atheletic events, sack race, three legged race, obstacle race, Tunnel relay, Relay for Boys' and girls', the grand relay and the Tug of war for students of classes V  to XII took place, the excitement got the better of many. We had there judicious judges namely, Mr/ Elris Jacksom, the  secretary of Howrah district umpires Association and also a coach of the West Bengal Boys and Girls' Darts Team; Mr. Chetan Chopra, a ground training instructor, associated with 4 Air Tech squadron at the Airwing office,  Jadavpur University and Mr. J.K. Das, a brave soldier from the 15 Rajput Regiment.
Midway through the sports was the spectacular drill  display presented by the students of classes. V, VI and VII. The glittering props used for the drill display added to the pomp and show of perfect body and mind co-ordination.
National gems Annual sports meet is an irresistable  occasion, even to the ex-students of the school. We had the present us. Past pupils relay for both boys and girls.  The Tug –of-War is and will always remain the most exciting event at our school sports. After the breath-taking excitement of all the events, as a slightly lighter note we had events for the teaching staff and the class – IV staffs.
Finally arrived the time for Prize distribution where the House of Fraternity was declared the Champion House in the Annual sports meet 2009-10.
The dusty tracks at the days end were exhausted and so  were the participants, yet extiberant at their own feat as they carried the laurels of their effort round their proud neck awaiting next year's sports meet.

BASKET BALL REPORT:

The  season of competition among all classes arrived with the starting of Inter Class Basket Ball Tournament. In the girls Division class 9 were the winners. In the boys Division class 12 were the winners.
Our School team participated in the Inter School Tournament organized by M.P. Birla Foundation and K.E. Carmel School. The school teams put up a spirited performance by reaching the semifinal in the boys and girls Division. The school boys and girls team took  part in the 1st Regional Basketball Tournament held on the 14th May organized by the Bengal Basketball Association where the girls Senior and Junior teams reached the finals. The Senior girls lost the finals but the Junior girls defeated future foundation in the finals. It was a good experience for the NGHSS Basketball team.

FOOTBALL:

In football, there are only three things that matter: hard work, dedication and a burning desire to win. With the presence of all these factors, football NGHSS has reached its zenith.
The school football team took part in the TTIS Football Tournament for Schools. The Senior Team reached the quarter finals while the Junior Team reached the semifinals. The school Senior team eased their way into the finals of the Pailan World School Football Tournament held at the Pailan World School grounds. The school team was defeated in the final's by St. Michael’s School (Durgapur ). Soumadeep Chatterjee our young budding goalkeeper made NGHSS proud as he bagged the best goalkeeper award and won a cash prize of Rs 1500/-. Over all an excellent performance by the school football team. Three cheers for NGSS.

Cricket:

Cricket the gentlemen's game has had a long eventful History in India. It has always and still continues to capture the imagination of the masses and here at NGHSS there is no exception. W.G. Grace would be proud of the way the game is played at NGHSS.
The Annual "Past and Present" Cricket Tournament held on 23rd January at the NGHSS grounds saw 16 teams take part including a teachers team. The day saw some  exciting and nail biting matches. The day and night final was between class 11 and the past  students team. The class 11 team was the winner. Maniak Senapati was awarded the best bowler and Sougato Mullick was awarded the best batsman.
"Look up and not down, Look forward and not back, look out and not in, And, you will surely win" The motto if NGHSS Cricket team.

Throwball:

The Inter-class throwball matches began with classes XI-XII on 6th July 2009; followed by Inter-class throwball for  classes X, IX and VIII. On 13.07.09 Inter-class throwball was held for classes VI & V.
The participants were divided into three croups i.e. Group A – Classes IX – XII
Group B – Classes VII – VIII
Group C – Classes V – VI
The winners of Group A was class XI D
Group B was class VIII D
Group C was class VF
 In the Inter-house throwball for junior group which was held on 26.10.09
Fraternity House – 1st
Liberty House – 2nd
Equality  House  – 3rd
Justice House – 4th
On 27.10.09 senior group had their Inter-house matches, the result as follows:
1st the House of Justice
2nd the House of Liberty
3rd the House of Equality
4th the House of Fraternity.
It was thrilling to see both the juniors and senior groups fight to bring laurels for their houses. As usual the persevering players did their houses proud and became the champion house.

CARROM:

 

Recreation is one of the vital aspects of our daily schedule as it re-energies the body to take on other important chores of life with a renewed vigour. Carrom, being an indoor game, acts as a catalyst in honing the skills of students in our school. Our school has an independent company  of senior and junior students who participate in the competitions namely – Inter-class, Inter-house  and  Inter-school. Our school has six fine carom boards, which along with the guidance of the teachers provide students the best platform needed to scale great heights.

  TABLE TENNIS:

Table Tennis is the One Indoor Game which gets good response from all the students. The students willingly would stay back after school for hours and participate with great enthusiasm.
The Inter-Class Table Tennis Competition was held in the month of May in which the Middle and Senior School Students took part. The Singles and Doubles events  witnessed spectacular display of their talents in the field.

INTER HOUSE CHESS 2009-2010:

Like every year, this year also our school conducted Inter House Chess for the Year 2009-10. The finals were held on 31st of October 2009. The tournament was held for the juniors as well as the seniors. The participants exhibited colossal enthusiasm and zeal for the tournament, especially the juniors. All the four house participated and performed well, with Equality, Liberty, fraternity and justice securing the first, second, third, and fourth positions respectively, for the juniors. Mehendi Das and Deblina Mohanto were the champions from the house of Equality. For the seniors R. Yogeshwari was the champion from the house of liberty..
