The quiz club of our school, Inquizitive has taken great leaps and bounds since its culmination. It's continuing in its outright goal – to share knowledge. And this knowledge is being well shared not just by seniors, but from all students irrespective of their class. The juniors are showing excellent promise as they keep on getting better with every passing year. On the other hand, the seniors are outperforming themselves each year bringing several accolades to this school.

Inquizitive has always believed in the sense of participation. If firmly believes that with every quiz comes a chance to participate and to learn something new. Hence, it believes that the students should take part in each and every quiz.

TOPICAL QUIZ 2009-10:

It's been called the Mother Of All Quizzes, its been called The Grandest Stage of Em All, its been called a lot of things. But what it boils down to, is, it's just a quiz. A quiz which happens to be the dream of every quizzard in National Gems. A quiz which makes stars out of its participants. A quiz which is somehow more than just a 'quiz'. Much like cricket is for India, quizzing is for us. And the topical quiz is our World Cup.
The topical quiz 2009 place on December 11th, with 27 top schools of in and around Kolkata participating. At the helm was Mr. Barry O' Brien, who in his trademark style, flared up the audience as well as put the contestants at ease. His humour, his statements, his presence on the stage as the quizmaster-have always been a signature of the NGHSS Topical quiz, and this time was no different. He conducted with ease, keeping control as well as keeping the audience from getting bored, with crowd-pleasing tunes in the audio round, and the vintage 'left vs right' contest! A quiz doesn't usually have dull moments. But with Mr. O'Brien as quizmaster, it's a statistical impossibility! The round on Words was a standout winner – fantastic way to make things interesting as well as expanding, everyone's vocabulary. In addition to all that there was the shower of chocolates and gifts for the audience.
After a grueling of quizzing, where teams went back and forth, again and again, La Martinere for Boys emerged as the winner, with the second and third positions being decided on the last question of the quiz, in the buzzer round. National Gems, represented by Debkalpa Goswami, Prithwish Nath, Chayon Mondal and Anwesh Mishra emerged runners up, with St. James’ placing third.
With the ambience, the audience, the music and – most importantly – the quizzing, it was an amazing night, reminding all why the NGHSS Topical quiz is the Super Bowl, the Wrestlemania, the World Cup, among quizzes in Kolkata.

NEIL O'BRIEN QUIZ:

The  9th of December, 2009, saw the commencement of a novel quiz programme in honour of the father of quizzing in India, Mr. Neil O'Brien. Hosted by National Gems Higher Secondary School, this programme was singular in its concept — it aimed at presenting to the city a group of young quiz masters who could satisfactorily carry forward the exciting culture of quizzing.
Quite different from the other quiz competitions, here we had the teachers and parents of NGHSS Junior section and NGHSS Senior section grouped in 4 teams. On this occasion Shaw Public School was also invited for participation and their teachers and parents formed two other teams.
The introductory session was conducted by Mr. Barry O' Brien while the other rounds were led by students or the 'budding quiz masters' as Mr. O'Brien described them. Mr. Abhishek Bagchi, the head of the Quiz Club of NGHSS also conducted one round of the event. The quiz was based on Kolkata which made it fairly easy and familiar and, therefore, quite interesting for both the participants and the audience. After every round Mr. Barry O' Brien commented on the strengths and weakness as of each debutant quiz master.
At the end of this entertaining session of quizzing NGHSS senior section teachers were declared the Winners, followed by Shaw Public School teachers as the first Runners up and NGHSS Senior Section Parents as the second Runners up. The young quiz masters also received certificates from Mr. Neil O' Brien.
This unique concept was decided to be taken forward with the quiz being conducted at an Inter-School level, and Mr. Neil O'Brien himself being present to conduct at least one round of it.
The Annual Topical Quiz of National Gems Higher Secondary School, easily the biggest quizzing event in Kolkata, stepped on to its 13th year and was held on the 11th of December, 2009. In the first round the quiz master of the show, Mr. Barry O'Brien, emphasized on the importance of new words in English language.
The music round, as always, received an amazing amount of crowd participation and applause, thanks to Mr. O'Brien charismatic presentation. At the end of the show La Martiniere for Boys emerged as the winner with National Gems Higher Secondary School bagging the second place. The Prizes were given away by Mr. M. S. Calvert, the Principal of NGHSS.
