Education spans far beyond the knowledge attained in the classroom. NGHSS endeavours to prepare students not merely as consumers of knowledge but users and producers of it as well through a balanced amalgam of academics and co- curricular activities. NGHSS provides comprehensive learning which teaches students academic knowledge, fine art and sports as well as morality, independent thinking and creativity. The four houses of Justice, Equality, Fraternity, Liberty at NGHSS aim at teaching students essential life skills like value of experience and dedication ,how to work with their teammates towards common goal, and how to deal with disappoints and successes.

2009

On 26th of  July 2009 Ankita Basu and Jayasree Saraswat participated in the Frank Anthony Memorial Debate.  They were runners up and Ankita Basu was adjudged the best speaker.

 

NGHSS stood proud winners in the Senior School TTIS  football played against Laxmipath Singhania School.


9 students of NGHSS participated and qualified to the finals of Divine Dias.


NGHSS bagged the first prize in the junior school TTIS football playing against St. James.

 

Students were adjudged winners in the debate, one act play and collage and painting in the Complan Gurukul Inter Educational Institutes’ fest in the month of August at Oberoi Grand.

 

It was a great moment for the school when students Anwesh Mishra, Arka Dyuti Palit and Chayon Mondal won the Jacoiz Quiz on the 21st and 23rd of October.
 
 
NGHSS students participated in the K.E CARMEL school fest on 5th and 6th November and they won the first football match.

 

Students on the 30th , 31st October and 1st November participated in a football match organised by the Pailan World School and won two matches consecutively.

 

A quiz show  was organised by the TCS IT WIZ QUIZ where our students Prithwish Nath and Debkalpa Goswami were adjudged runners up among the 400 teams that participated.

In the following para phrase the major achievements of the school so far are highlighted:

Dance
 

Disney Channel organized a dancing competition, “My School Rocks” for school students aged between 6-18 years. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from various schools in the eastern region .National Gems Higher Secondary school is proud to have been selected among the top 8 schools in the eastern region.

 

The participants who have brought this glory to the school are Hironmoy Pal, Nikita Mahipal. Abhishek Agarwal,  Abhishek Thakur, Sukanya Mazumder, Sirsha Mazumder and Tania Debnath.


Quiz

 

  • The quiz team of National Gems Higher Secondary School participated in Jaco-iz’ 08 at St. James held on 25th and 27th June. The prelims were held at the school campus. National Gems Higher Secondary School was represented by Sharan Roy Chowdhury, Debkalpo Goswami, Prithwish Nath and Sayan Mukherjee, who topped the semi finals and were a contented 4th in the finals, held at G. D. Birla Sabhaghar on 27th June.

 

  • National Gems Higher Secondary School participated at the quiz contest on the topic “From Flintstones to Fritolay” on 4th and 5th July, organized by St. John’s Diocessean School. The participants Sharon Roy Chowdhury, Debkalpo Goswami, Prithwish Nath and Chayan Mondol once again qualified for the finals.

 

  • Students from N.G.H.S.S. participated in the TTIS sponsored Dil Se Quiz on 25.8.08. which was organized by Chinmaya Yuva Kendra at Kalamandir. The team comprising of Chayan Mondol, Subhodeep Sarkar and Saiket Talukder were adjudged the proud winners of the competition after having battled through a 25 question tie-breaker.

 

  • The ASISC regional finals took place at Kalimpong on 6.09.08. The junior team, comprising of Chayan Mondol and Aditya Vikram Samal who had qualified for the finals brought laurels to the school by coming 2nd.

 

  • The quiz team of our school represented by Chayan Mondol, Debkalpa Goswami and Sharan Roy Chowdhury participated in the Chavara Memorial Quiz organized by K.E. Carmel school held at their own campus at Amtala on 12th of September, 2008 and were adjudged the runners-up.

 

  • Our school took part in the quiz at the St. Thomas Fest held at their school campus represented by Arkadyuti Palit and Chayan Mondol and were declared a proud 2nd.

 

  • The Limca Book of Records quiz organized by the Derek O’ Brien Associates at Vidya Mandir witnessed the National Gems school quiz team consisting of Chayan Mondol and Subhodeep Sarkar advance to the finals.
     

INVESTITURE CEREMONY


The investiture ceremony of National Gems Higher Secondary School for the academic year 2008-2009 was held on 16th May’08 along with the Annual Prize Distribution in the school grounds.

The student leaders consisting of boys and girls from classes X to XII had their badges pinned by their principal Mr. M. S. Calvert.

The prefects took the oath and “promised to work faithfully and in all matters affecting work, sports and general demeanour to work for the honour of the school. They pledged further to place the interest of others before their own and strive to preserve a sense of humour always.”

Proud parents of the student leaders witnessed their children receiving the honour. Many institutions pledge to encourage the course of the girl child but National Gems Higher Secondary School has set an example by appointing Ekta Mukherjee as a school captain for the first time in the history of the school. The session looks bright indeed for the school.

 


SRIJANI 2008 WAS ORGANIZED BY ASHOK HALL GROUP OF SCHOOLS OVER A PERIOD OF 3 DAYS NAMELY 9TH, 10TH AND 11TH JULY, 08.

 

1. Ethnic Hues:

Enthused students participated in the Indian Folk Group dance choreographed on authentic folk music.

2. Block and Tackle:

The event witnessed adept orators speaking for and against the chosea topic revealing their cognizance.

Anush of Class VII represented our school and proved to be an excellent speaker reaching the finals with the highest score.

3. The Last note :

An antakshari competition saw Ankush Dutta, Payal Moitra and Nisha Chatterjee representing the school and enthralling the audience with their melodious voice.

4. Q – Quotient:

Souvik Roy, Anmol Srivastava and Aditya Vikram Samal – the infallible 3 from our school reached the semi-finals of this inter school quiz competition.

5. Sound of music:

Singing without the accompaniment of music is a difficult proposition and this Daniella D’Cruize of class VII did brilliantly at the sound of music contest.


6. Battle of the kings:

Abhirup Kar and Shreya Banerjee represented our school at this inter school chess league competition.

Abhirup made us proud when he was adjudged the winner of the chess championship trophy and is verdantly a vishwanathan Anand in the making.

7. Slip on your dancing shoes:

Sharanya Deb (Tathoi) of class VI was declared 1st runners up as she gracefully synchronized her dance movements to the changing rhythmic beats of myriad musical dance numbers with ease and supreme confidence.

8. Crowning Glory:

A popular multi-round pageant show saw Arran Calvert and Payelia Dasgupta competing for the coveted title of Master and Miss personality of the inter-school festival. Payelia and Arran braved the questions from judges quite comfortably and walked the ramp with immense panache.

To be adjudged the 2nd runners up while competing with 40 other schools on a national level is a commendable achievement to reckon with.

LAUNCHING OF THE WEBSITE


National Gems Higher Secondary School launched its website on 16th May, 2008 along with its Annual Prize Distribution, making it more momentous and who could be more suited for launching it than one chief guest on the occasion Mr. Neil O’Brien – a pioneer who has brought about a renaissance in the field of education in India. This day will be remembered as a red letter day in the history of National Gems Higher Secondary School.



ANNUAL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION


Awards act as an impetus to spur students to achieve better results. The much awaited Annual prize distribution of National Gems Higher Secondary School was held on 16th May, 2008 on the school grounds. Mr. Neil O’Brien, chairman of the council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

The day also witnessed the launching of the school website and the prefects investiture ceremony. Our Principal Mr. M. S. Calvert presented the annual school report to keep the audience abreast of the school’s performance and achievements in the academic year 2007-2008.

Mr. Neil O’Brien lauded the school choir for signing harmoniously with poise and equanimity in all three languages – English, Hindi and Bengali.

He further commended the school for encouraging the girl child by appointing Ekta Mukherjee as the school captain.

 

MAYFAIR INTERNATIONAL


The 8th Macfair International was organized at City Montessori School, Mahanagar(2nd Branch) ,Lucknow, India over a period of four days i.e. 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th of August. 77 enthusiastic schools from 9 countries competed at this event to explore their skills in the fields of Mathematics , Science and Computer.
 


SEQUENCE OF EVENTS:

i) Elocution:


Wade Calvert of XI C mesmerized everyone with his oratory skills , elocuting an extract from “Curtmantle” by Christopher Fry . He brought laurels to his school by winning a commendable 1st position at the event .


ii) Science Model Display:


This event witnessed Arijit Halder and Arko Dasgupta of Class XII presenting a portable planetarium named “Tara Mandal” which won the appraisal of all and sundry .The team stood a proud 3rd.


iii) HAM:
 

Juhi Agarwal of XI C implemented the adage “slow and steady wins the race” and at the last moment proved her cognizance with valid objection against her opponents and stood a joint 1st .


iv) Maths Quiz:


Varsha Agarwal and Gaurav Dutta Chowdhury of XII A had a tryst with challenging question which gave them an opportunity to prove their mettle. The team stood a satisfied 5th at the event .

The exhuberant team of N.G.H.S.S. was awarded the overall 1st prize and declared the Overall Champion School out of 77 schools from 9 countries .


BOSCOTSAV


Don Bosco, Liluah ,hosted BOSCOTSAV the annual fest on the 18th and 19th of July ,2008.Our school participated in a number of events. On the 19th of July Sneha Karmakar of Class XI bagged the Runners Up prize in Bosco Jam .It was a new experience for our participants
